Porosity analysis in SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composites

Ceramic matrix composites made of silicon carbide fibers embedded in (SiC/SiC CMCs) are widely recognized as excellent replacements for denser superalloys such Nickel based super alloys high-temperature applications aero engines. During the manufacturing process with chemical vapour infiltration, large amount pores introduced CMC and their presence can have considerable impact on structural performance a component. In this work, we analyze pore size spatial distribution SiC/SiC CMCs different geometrically-identical specimens. Porosity within specimens quantified through computed tomography (CT) scans. Different statistical approaches utilized describing pores, each specimen.
